Cricket is one of the most popular sports in India. This season is no different, with hype reaching an all-time high. IPL has had many memorable moments, including some epic milestones in its 15th edition so far.

IPL is one of the most popular T20I league tournaments in the world. It’s hosted every year and has become popular due to its thrilling matches and players.

Hundreds of young players have tried to establish themselves as T20 players in these past two IPL seasons, but only a few have managed to prove themselves as top players.

IPL TEAMS

01). The Only Team To Have Never Played The IPL Final. 

No team in the IPL has played in more finals than Chennai Super Kings (CSK), yet. They’ve played in a total of 12, followed by Mumbai Indians with 10 finals. But the most unknown fact of the IPL is that Delhi Daredevils (DD) has never played a final! After CSK and MI, who has also played 10 finals?

The Delhi Daredevils are the only team that has never played in an IPL Final. The Sunrisers Hyderabad were formerly known as the Deccan Chargers and received a hypothetical championship.

02). The Team To Play The Most IPL Finals.

Chennai Super Kings have played in nine finals, which is more than any other team. CSK led by MS Dhoni have won 4 titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021. Chennai’s MS Dhoni has appeared in 10 of the IPL Finals. His milestone is nine finals with Chennai Super Kings and one with Rising Pune Supergiants.

03). Team With The Most IPL Titles.

You may be knowing that CSK is the team that played the most finals in the IPL tournament. But they are not the team with the most IPL titles.

Mumbai Indians have won this title 5 times! Kolkata Knight Riders have won the IPL twice. 

04). Team With The Most IPL Final Losses.

Everyone knows that CSK have played in the most no. of IPL. And, they have won the IPL 4 times. But, another interesting fact of IPL is that CSK is the team with IPL Final losses. 

05). The Only Team To Have Never Changed Its Captain.

When things are not working well, teams have to change the players as well as the captains. However, Chennai Super Kings has always had one captain: Mahendra Singh Dhoni. They have won the IPL 4 times. 

06). Highest And Lowest Runs Total In IPL.

One thing that nobody can dispute is that RCB has an amazing team. That makes them a dangerous opponent. But they are also very unpredictable. And, they are capable of giving a performance on both ends of the spectrum.

In 2013, RCB scored 263 runs against PWI and is the only team that has ever surpassed this score.

At the same time, they also hold the record for the minimum runs by an IPL team. RCB were all out for 49 against Kolkata Knight Riders Team in IPL 2017.

RCB has been actively promoting the Go Green initiative. They change their jersey color to green for one game of each season. 

08). Team With The Most Captain Changes.

Punjab and Delhi have a record for using the most number of captains in the IPL.They have used 13 captains.

09). Team With The Best Winning Percentage.

The Chennai Super Kings have the highest winning percentage in the IPL. The team has played a total of 165 games and has won 100, lost 63, tied one and had no result for one game giving them a 60.61% winning percentage.

010). Team With The Most Wins.

CSK is often said to be the team with most wins in the IPL. But did you know that, Mumbai Indians have won the most number of matches in the history of IPL.

In total, they’ve won 107 from 187 that they played so far.

11). Team With The Most Toss Wins.
Here’s an interesting IPL fact: Mumbai Indians holds the record for the most number of toss wins at 98.

12). Team With The Longest Winning Streak.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are two of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League. However, they haven’t been able to maintain their winning streaks as long as this franchise.

The team with the longest winning streak in IPL history is Kolkata Knight Riders. They won 9 consecutive games and became champions of IPL 2014. The winning streak continued for one more match at IPL 2015, bringing their total to 10 consecutive wins. 

13). Most Expensive player in IPL Auctions.

Chris Morris is the costliest player in IPL history bought by Rajasthan Royals for a whopping 16.25 Crores in IPL 2020 season.

14). Captain To Lose Maximum Tosses.

Rajasthan Royals’ captain Sanju Samson broke MS Dhoni’s record of losing the toss in 12 matches during IPL 2012. Despite the loss, Samson guided the team to victory in the tournament finale thanks to his spectacular performance. He has lost the toss 13 times in the IPL. 

15). Team With The Most Qualifying Playoffs.

Instead of a two-year suspension from the IPL, CSK has reached the final 6 times, most by any team in the history of IPL. Also, CSK is the only team that has qualified for the playoffs in every season of the IPL, that’s 11 times (except for 2 years due to ban).

16). Teams To Have Never Won The IPL.

Bangalore and Punjab along with Delhi have never won the IPL.

This is one of the funniest facts about IPL. On one side, there is RCB who sticks with Virat Kohli as captain even after not winning a single IPL season.

And on the other hand, there is KXIP, who changes its captain in every season of IPL and still ends up on the losing side.

17). Team With The Biggest Winning Margin.

Mumbai Indians hold the record for the biggest-ever win in the history of the IPL. MI defeated DD (Delhi Daredevils) by a huge margin of 146 runs in IPL 2017.

18). Teams With The Most Defeats In An IPL Season.

Delhi Daredevils (DD) and Pune Warriors (PW) hold the record for most consecutive defeats (9) in a single season of IPL.

19). Team With The Highest Successful Run Chase.

Rajasthan Royals holds the record of the highest successful run chase in IPL history. They did it for the first time in the first season of IPL in the 9th Match against Deccan Chargers in the second innings and went on to become IPL 2008 winner.

In 2020,  they broke their own record once again of the highest successful chase in IPL 2020 against Kings XI Punjab. They chase down the highest target in IPL history of 224 runs.

It took 12 years to break the record of the highest run chase in IPL History.

BATTING

20). First Run in IPL.

The first run in IPL came from a delivery bowled by Praveen Kumar, however, it came from the bat of Brendon McCullum.

21). First Four in IPL.

In the year 2008, KKR’s Brendon McCullum hit the first boundary against RCB’s Zaheer Khan.

22). First Six in IPL.

In the year 2008, KKR’s Brendon McCullum was also the first batsman to hit six. The bowler was again RCB’s Zaheer Khan.

23). Most Scores Under 100 In IPL.

This might be shocking for the RCB fans. RCB is one team which have been restricted to under 100 runs for the maximum number of times.

They got on 5 different occasions before they could score 100 runs. Once they could only make 96 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.

24). Most Sixes in IPL.

The IPL is a quick-paced game. Here players come, try to hit as hard and far as possible.

Chris Gayle, who has given so many explosive performances, has the most sixes. He has hit 326 sixes in just 125 matches and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down.

25). Most Runs Scored In IPL.

When it comes to most runs in the IPL, Virat Kohli is the undisputed champion. 

The former Royal Challengers Bangalore, who only played for one team since his debut in the tournament is the highest run-scorer in the IPL. He has scored 6411 runs in 216 matches. 

Next on the list is Shikhar Dhawan with 6086 runs in 200 matches.

26). Most Runs In A Single Season of IPL.

The year 2016 was one of the most entertaining seasons of the Indian Premier League. With two players scoring the most runs in a single season of IPL. Virat Kholi smashed 973 runs while David Warner scored 848 runs.

In the 2022 IPL, Jos Buttler scored 863 runs.

27). Most Double-Century Partnerships In IPL.

Virat Kohli has accomplished some amazing things on the international stage. But he also does quite well in the IPL too. There have been five 200 partnerships in the history of IPL. And, Kohli has been a part of three of them.

28). Fastest Half-Century In IPL.

The quickest half-century in IPL history belongs to KL Rahul. He hit the 50 mark in just 14 balls,
Giving him company at the top is Pat Cummins. He also took only 14 balls to hit a half-century.

The second fastest came from Yusuf Pathan when he scored his 50 in 15 balls during IPL 2014.

29). Most Half-Centuries In The IPL.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s David Warner is the IPL’s all-time leader in fifties with an impressive 5449 runs in 150 innings. He has also hit 4 centuries and 50 half-centuries.

30). Most Centuries In IPL.

It isn’t necessarily a huge surprise that Chris Gayle has the most number of centuries scored in the history of IPL.

He is followed by Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler with five centuries each to their name. David Warner, Shane Watson and K L Rahul have scored four centuries each.

31). Most Fours In IPL.

Chris Gayle is widely regarded as a hard hitter who holds the record for most sixes in IPL history, but Shikhar Dhawan holds the record for most fours in IPL history with 524. He played 159 matches.

Four of the top 5 players who have hit the most fours in IPL are Indians. Isn’t that interesting?

32). Best Batting Strike Rate In IPL.

Virat Kohli, who is a batsman in the Indian Premier League, has a strike rate of 146. Kohli is not even in the top 10! The player with the best SR in IPL is Andre Russell, with a strike rate of 177.88.

One more interesting IPL fact is that Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle don’t even crack the top 10. In fact, Chris is ranked 11th with his SR of 151.02, while Virat comes in at 53rd with an SR of 131.6.

33). Most Sixes In An Inning In IPL.

Chris Gayle broke a huge record when he hit 17 sixes in one inning of the IPL. The old record was held by Brendon McCullum, who had 13 sixes before Chris set his new record.

One interesting fact about the IPL is that Chris Gayle was first, third, and fifth out of the top 5 players in hitting sixes in a single inning. That’s pretty impressive.

34). Fastest Century In IPL

Chris Gayle holds the record for scoring the fastest 100 in IPL (30 balls).

35). Highest Individual Score in IPL

Chris Gayle has the record for scoring the highest individual run scorer in IPL. (175 runs against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013).

BOWLING

36). Longest Run By A Bowler Without Bowling A No-Ball.

In the 2016 IPL, for the first time in eight years, Chawla bowled his first no-ball.

He had not overstepped for a single delivery before then and had to go without a no-ball for 386 overs. 

37). Most Dot Balls In IPL.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been one of the most economical bowlers in the history of this tournament.

In 146 matches, Bhuvneshware Kumar has bowled 1406 dot balls. This is the most number of dot balls delivered by any player in the history of this tournament.

Sunil Narine with 1391 dot balls in 148 matches comes second. At the third position is Ravichandran Ashwin with 1387 dot balls in 184 matches.

38). First Bowler Of IPL.

Praveen Kumar bowled the first delivery in the IPL. He also gave away the first run in the IPL.  Saurav Ganguly played the first ball but he wasn’t the first to score the run. 

39). Most Maiden Overs In IPL.

The bowler with the most number of maiden overs in IPL history is Praveen Kumar. In 119 matches, he bowled 14 maiden overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar with 11 maiden overs in 146 matches is in second place. In 103 matches, Irfan Pathan is third with 10 maiden overs.

40). Most Ducks In IPL.

It may seem a bit strange, but Rohit Sharma was dismissed on a duck 12 times in the IPL. We just hope this number doesn’t increase any further.

41). Most Hat Tricks In IPL.

The goal of every bowler is to take three wickets in three consecutive balls.

The player who has taken the most hat tricks is Amit Mishra and the player with the second most hat tricks is Yuvraj Singh.

42). Most Dot Balls In An IPL Season.

Dale Steyn is one of the most dangerous bowlers in modern cricket.

The most dot balls were bowled by South African fast pacer Dale Steyn. In the 2013 IPL, Steyn bowled a total of 211 dot balls in 68  overs.

Deepak Chatah has the second-most number of dot balls. In IPL 2019, he bowled 190 dot balls in 64.3 overs.

43). Most Runs Conceded By A Bowler In An Inning.

The number of runs conceded in an IPL inning is 70 runs.

And, the bowler was Basil Thampi. He was playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against RCB in the 2018 IPL.

44). Most Wickets In An IPL Season.

Dwayne Bravo and Harshal Patel have taken 32 wickets each in a single IPL Season. 

Harshal played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2021 and took 32 wickets from 15 matches while averaging 14.34 and having an economy of 8.14.

In the IPL season 2013, Bravo played a vital role for his team CSK. He struck 32 wickets in just one single IPL season in 2013. In 18 matches, he bowled almost 63 overs taking 32 wickets at an average of 15.53 with an economy of 7.95.

45). Most Wickets In IPL.

Dwayne Bravo is the highest wicket-taker in IPL history, with the total number of wickets he has taken being 183.

46). Bowler With The Best Economy.

One of the best spinners in the modern era Rashid Khan has a very good record in IPL bowling history. Rashid Khan has bowled 365.5 overs with an average economy of 6.37.

47). Best Bowling Figure in an IPL Match.

Adam Gilchrist has the best bowling figures in the IPL. In his last IPL match, he bowled just one ball and took the wicket of Harbhajan Singh.

48). Bowler To Concede Most Sixes In IPL

Piyush Chawla has also conceded the most sixes in IPL.

49). Most Wickets In An IPL Inning.

The record for taking the most wickets in an innings in IPL is in the name of Alzarri Joseph, Sohail Tanvir and Adam Zampa. All three of them have taken 6 wickets in an IPL Match. 

50). Bowler With The Most Economical Over In IPL.

Ashish Nehra (DD) and Fidel Edwards (for DC) are the two bowlers who bowl the most economical overs in the history of IPL. They both shared the same bowling figures. They both conceded 6 runs in his 4 overs with 1 maiden over each and 1 wicket each.

Interestingly, both performances came in 2009, when IPL was held in South Africa instead of India.

51). Most Dismissals In One Inning.


In the IPL most dismissals by the wicketkeeper in a single innings is done by Kumar Sangakkara. He has 5 dismissals to his name in the match on 14th April 2011.

Dhoni with 4 dismissals is overshadowed by Sangakkara.

52). Most Catches In IPL History By A Non-Wicketkeeper.

AB de Villiers has not only taken some of the most stunning catches in the history of IPL. But, he has also taken most catches in one season of IPL.

Mr. 360 has taken 19 catches in IPL 2016.

53). Most Catches In One Match Of IPL By A Non-Wicketkeeper.

Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan holds the record for the most catches in one match of IPL. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, he took 5 catches in a match in 2021 IPL

54). Most Catches In IPL.

The player with the most catches in IPL history is Indian player Suresh Raina. He has managed to take 102 catches while playing 193 matches. 

The next player on that list is Pollard with 103 catches in 189 matches. Another Indian on this list is Rohit Sharma. He has taken 97 catches in 227 matches.

55). First Indian To Win An Orange Cap In IPL.

The first Indian to ever win the Orange Cap was none other than the God of Cricket. Yes you guessed it right. Sachin Tendulkar won the orange cap for being the highest scorer of the 3rd IPL.

56). Most Orange Caps In IPL.

There have been a lot of great players who have won the IPL Orange Cap, but David Warner has done it three times in history. He’s the highest so far.

He scored 562 runs in 2015 IPL, 641 in IPL 2017 and 692 runs in IPL 2019.

57). First Orange Cap In IPL.

The Orange Cap is given to the player who scores most runs  in an IPL season.

Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh was the first recipient of an Orange Cap in 2015. In 11 matches, he scored 616 runs.

58). First Purple Cap In IPL.

The Purple Cap is given to the player who has taken the most wickets in a season. This honor was first given to Pakistani left-arm medium pacer Sohail Tanvir when he played for Rajasthan Royals back in 2008.

59). Most Purple Caps In IPL.

Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar have both won the Purple Cap twice. Dwayne Bravo won this award in 2013 and  2015 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar achieved the feat in 2016 and 2017.

Here’s a fun fact about the IPL: while Australians have won the Orange Cap 4 times, Indians have won the Purple Cap 4 times.

60). Most Man Of The Match Awards In IPL.

Mr. 360 AB de Villiers playing for RCB has won the Man of the Match Awards 25 times. Chris Gayle with 22 awards is in the second position. Whereas our own Hitman Rohit Sharma is in the third position. He has won the award 18 times.

61). Youngest Player To Debut In IPL.

Prayas Ray Barman, who plays for the RCB in this year’s IPL, has managed to make himself into history books. At the age of 16 years and 152 days old, Prayas is the youngest-ever player to debut in IPL.

62). Oldest Player To Play In IPL.

The oldest player to have ever played an IPL match was Brad Hogg, who was 45 years and 92 days old when he played his last game for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Furthermore, Pravin Tambe was 44 years and 219 days old when he played his final match back in 2016 for Sunrisers Hyderabad

63). Only Player To Have Played Both The 1st And 500th Games Of IPL.

Zaheer Khan is the only player in the history of the Indian Premier League who played both 1st and 500th game of the tournament.

He played his first match with RCB when they faced KKR. The 500th game of IPL was between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils on 3rd May, 2015. Zaheer Khan was part of the Delhi Daredevils team during that season..

64). Only 1 Player In IPL Representing His Country.

IPL is full of great players from different countries, but this one player from Nepal makes a special appearance.

Sandeem Lamichhane, 20 years old, became the youngest player to ever be featured in IPL history at the age of 18 and he’s done it for Team Delhi Daredevils.

65). Captain With The Best Winning Ratio In IPL.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni has led his team to victory more times in Indian Premier League matches than any other captain. Dhoni has played 162 matches and won the most matches playing as a captain with 100. And, he has also lost the most matches playing as a captain with 64.

66). Only Player to Score 2000 Runs and 200 Wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja is the only player who scored both 2000 runs and took 200 wickets in IPL.

67). Player to Play for The Most Franchises.

Aaron Finch has played for a total of 8 franchises in IPL till now. The most by any player in the IPL.

68). Only Indians To Have Been The Most Valuable Player.

The IPL Started in 2008. Since then, there have been 15 seasons of IPL till now. And, only 2 Indians have been Most Valuable Player till now.

Sachin Tendulkar won the first MVP Award in the 2010 IPL. He scored 618 runs for Mumbai Indians. Interestingly he also won the Orange Cap in the tournament.

Virat Kohli was the 2nd Indian who won the MVP award. He scored a staggering 973 runs and won the MVP award.

69). IPL Was Not Supposed To Be 20-20 Championship

Lalit Modi, the mastermind behind IPL, pitched a 50-over format Twenty20 tournament to the BCCI in 1995. In 2007, when Zee TV launched ICL, BCCI finally agreed to use this format for its own Twenty20 league.

Imagine if you loved a 50-over Cricket League, and how different things would have been — there would be fewer matches and probably fewer teams.
